Many people who are familiar with Carb Back-Loading know the importance of an Accelerator Shake. An accelerator shake gets the lifter through the morning and then preps him her for her workout.
The shake, complements to DH Kiefer, is one of the best little recipes that I’ve found. I’ve modified it a little to make it taste even better, and this recipe helps keep me full, avoid insulin spikes too early in the morning, provides me with protein, revs my metabolism, and gives me the pump I need for a workout. So without further ado, here’s the recipe:
Accelerator Shake
- Fill your blender with coffee (about one cup or generous serving)
- 1-2 tsp coconut oil
- 1 TBS heavy cream
- 1/2 scoop of vanilla whey protein.
- Blend and drink up! It tastes like something you’d buy at Starbucks, I swear.
OPTIONAL:
- For pre-workout, add about 5 grams creatine.
- For post-workout, add about 5 grams leucine (amino acid).
DID YOU KNOW?
Coconut oil and MCT Oil (a substitute for coconut oil if you don’t like the flavor) both digest like a carb? I know that’s hard to wrap your brain around, but they count as a “fat” in your diet, but digest/work for you like a carb. So this is totally my go-to pre-workout drink (and sometimes I drink it while I lift). I get my good fats, healthy protein, energy boosting caffeine to help me with my workouts. It’s perfect. And the added TBS of cream makes it flat-out dreamy. I can’t wait to wake up and make this drink.
So that’s it! The ingredient list is simple and effective. How can you not love it?!
