Amber shares some more information for those of you shopping for the perfect protein. If you missed our first installment of What Kind of Protein Should I Buy, you can find it here.
Last Summer, I dubbed myself the Protein Princess and it is a title I still proudly wear today. Except, it wasn’t easy finding a Protein Powder fit for my damsel in distress digestive system. I have Celiac Disease, lactose intolerance, and Severe IBS–so the quest for a protein powder that was gluten free AND lactose free that didn’t have a lot of “junk” in it was quite the difficult feat, but I knew I wasn’t alone in my search.
Did you know?
1 in 133 Americans have Celiac Disease
25-45 Million Americans suffer from IBS
40 Million Americans are lactose intolerant
With statistics like that, I knew it was my royal duty as the Protein Princess to provide a follow up article to Stephanie’s “What Kind of Protein Should I Buy” providing our Strong Figure Community who have any of the above conditions with options.
Alas, after countless hours of research and some trial and error my knight in shining armor appeared.
Isopure.
And with him, he brought two other valiant knights:
Slap Nutrition
Vega Sport
All three protein powders are gluten free, and Amber’s Irate Intestine Approved!
Isopure and Slap Nutrition are lactose free, and Vega Sport is actually dairy free since it is vegan!
Isopure
This is my favorite protein powder I have taste-tested and used. I credit my baby biceps and killer quad growth to this knight in shining armor. I use it almost daily, either for post-workout recovery or to pump up my protein intake.
- 100% pure whey protein isolate
- 25 grams per serving (tub says 50, but that’s if you use two scoops, which I don’t!)
- Read here, for the science, but simply stated, it’s pure protein without preservatives or additives!
- Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Aspartame Free, & Low Carb
- Mixes great in my blender bottle with only water and tastes even better! Best tasting protein powder I’ve ever had!
- (I also love adding it to greek yogurt, my overnight oats, and milk)
- Comes in a variety of flavors and nutritional needs (low carb, gainer, no sugar added, caffeine containing, etc.)
- My top three flavor picks: Dutch Chocolate, Cookies & Cream, and Creamy Vanilla
Slap Nutrition – “Slapping the Nutrition Industry, One Whey or Another”
I actually had the pleasure of speaking with the president of the company, Jason, who I reached out to when I first saw his product on Instagram. After emailing back and forth and exchanging puns about the problem with other brands, “the scooper is all the ‘whey’ at the bottom,” Jason was kind enough to offer some SLAP samples for me to test out, to see if they met my intestines’ seal of approval. You see, even if a product is marked gluten free and lactose free, it doesn’t always mean my irate IBS will approve. SLAP is Amber’s IBS approved, and has a super simple ingredient list, something that I can feel good to put about in my body!
4 ingredients: Whey Protein isolate, Natural Flavors, Xantham Gum, and Stevia.
- Cold processed, micro filtered 100% whey protein isolate
- 25 grams of protein
- Zero sugar
- No artificial sweeteners
- Lactose and gluten free
- No growth hormones
- Peanut Butter, Cinnamon Swirl, Vanilla, & Chocolate to choose from
Vega Sport
Since this product is a plant based protein, it does have an “earthy” taste as well as a grainier texture compared to most other powders but it received my Irate Intestines stamp of approval. Great option for vegans looking to add more protein to their diet or use as a post work-out recovery shake.
25 grams of a plant-based blend of protein
- Mixes well with water
- Sweetened with Stevia
- Additional Medicinal Ingredients added for extra health benefits
- Vanilla, Chocolate, Berry Flavor
Where to Buy:
Isopure:
3 lb tub is what I buy, because I like to purchase more than one flavor, but it does come in a six pound and one pound*
Amazon, Vitamin Shoppe, Muscle & Strength, and Vitacose – 50 dollar range for three pounds.
I do not recommend buying it from GNC, unless you are a Card Member and it is on sale, otherwise you may shovel out 90 dollars for a single tub, which is not worth it when you can get it for cheaper elsewhere!
3lbs at Vitamin Shoppe is on sale now for $42.92 just click here.
When the sale ends Muscle & Strength is a great option, 3lbs is only $45.87 just click here.
Slap Nutrition:
1.88 lb. tub
Right from the site itself for 45
Vega Sport:
23 servings/28.9 oz tub.
Cheapest place: Vitacost, Amazon, and Vitamin Shoppe on sale right now for $49.99, and the site itself for $65.
Join me, with one of these valiant knights in my Protein Kindgdom!

Is it okay if I love how PUNNY I was about the Princess theme? 🙂
Hahaha–Amber it is my fave part of the whole piece!
I just tried the Vega Sport for the first time yesterday and I really like it! I think I might buy a tub and see how it tastes in recipes 🙂
Wait, Amber, I just realized that Isopure has a “caffeinated” protein powder? I am beyond curious on this one. Will be checking that out….
