“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful” – Eric Thomas
My name is Leah Will and I am beyond excited to be a Strong Figure Ambassador! I am a university student studying at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada. I am a Kinesiology and Physical Education major and am completing a minor in psychology as well. I am a student varsity athlete, competitive curler and I am a Certified Personal Trainer, so it is clear that health and fitness play an active role in my life.
I have always been pretty athletic. When I was younger I played almost every sport until I found my true passion of curling and that is what I am focusing on in my life at the moment. However, like most girls in our society today I wasn’t always super confident and proud of my body and my abilities. In high school I just wanted to be ‘skinny’ so I would fall into the trap of stupid diets (eating less than 1000 calories a day), binge eat and I was the classic “cardio bunny” at the gym. Looking back on it now, I see what I was doing to myself was completely unhealthy and very damaging to my mental state as well as my self esteem. There were many times where I would break down emotionally because I didn’t like the way I looked, even though on the outside I looked just fine. It wasn’t until high school when I was starting to become more independent and interested in fitness when I realized what I was doing was wrong and not healthy. I started weight lifting and eating a healthy and well balanced diet. I educated myself and I worked really hard at becoming a positive and happy person who puts the work into changing things that I feel need changing.
Flash forward a few years and now I’m happy, confident and proud of the lifestyle I have built for myself. Like I said, I am a curler (I bet you don’t know many of those!) It’s a tough sport; mentally, physically and emotionally. My dream of making it to the Olympics one day is what drives me and makes me work so hard. I train 5-6x a week at the gym. I eat right and I do not deprive myself of anything. Balance is key! (thats what makes cheat meals so amazing!)

Taking care of your body and your mind is SO important and I can’t stress this enough. Your body is the only one you have. You can change it, accept it and be happy or you can just let it haunt you. If you want to succeed then you must have the positive mindset and attitude towards yourself and your ability. Confidence is absolutely everything. BE YOUR OWN MOTIVATION. Having the ability to walk, run, bike, swim, climb.. even MOVE is a blessing. I may not be the strongest, fittest or the best but I sure work hard at enhancing my own abilities and becoming the best version of me I can be. Do not compare yourself to others. The size of your clothes, the number on the scale or barbell doesn’t matter to anyone but yourself. You are you, and that is what makes fitness so unique!
