Shelly Cannon is a driven and diverse athlete who is no stranger to the skylight. She’s an experienced commercial and fitness model, national NPC bikini and figure competitor, and Elite raw Powerlifter. She practices yoga and runs mud races and obstacle courses every few months. She continually finds new ways to challenge herself and improve.
She began training for her first bodybuilding (bikini) competition in June of 2010. After placing 2nd, she realized competing was going to continue to be a big part of her life. She made the switch from the bikini division to the figure division in May of 2012, placing 2nd in her first figure competition. She has placed in the top 15 at nationals two years in a row and plans to perform even better in 2014.
After Nationals in 2012, Shelly began exploring powerlifting. She trained with Richard Pinelli at Elite Strength and Performance for a few months, then switched to Orlando Barbell to be coached by Brian Schwab. In her first meet, Shelly managed to score two gold medals, four US records (APF and AAPF), and the best overall lifter trophy. Her goal is to hold at least one world raw powerlifting record and to compete at the Arnold Classic.
Shelly was featured in a reality TV show in 2013 called House of Huge, documenting her and nine other contestants’ prep for a national level competition. She is also featured in an upcoming documentary about powerlifting called Behind the Iron.
Shelly grew up in New Smyrna Beach Florida, and developed a love for the outdoors at a young age. Her hobbies include photography, bodybuilding, yoga, surfing, watersports, boating, scuba diving, mountain biking, camping, and traveling.
Shelly has a BS degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Central Florida and she is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. She works full-time as the Chief Operations Officer at a private wealth management firm in Florida.
