Emily: The Gym Is a Scary Place.
It’s difficult to describe what it is like being a newbie at the gym, or more accurately in my case, new to fitness in general. Some of you reading this have been athletes your whole lives, and even if you are an athlete who has fallen out of shape, I think that probably gives you an advantage returning to the gym after a long absence. I have never been an athlete of any kind, so consistent exercise and training were new to me when I started my journey a few months ago. Read more…
Abby: The Battle.
You lost your job? There’s a reason for that. You suffered a heartbreak? There’s a reason for that too. Sometimes people get annoyed with that frame of mind, but everyone travels down his or her own path for a reason. Everyone has a story and that unique story shapes your ability to help others. I mean, when you see yourself in pictures and in mirrors–looking bigger and bigger every day, you start to think, “Am I gaining weight? I’ll work that off. I’ll go on a diet.” But you don’t. You continue to gain, avoid photos, and then your mom takes a picture of you on Christmas Day and you suddenly realize, “Oh my God. I am fat.” Not just “I gained a little weight-fat,” but actually fat-FAT–even bordering obese. And if you’ve ever experienced this moment, you know that it’s a moment you don’t just bounce back from. In fact, it’s something that you struggle with for the rest of your life. Read more…
Deanna: “The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire, the size of your dream, and how you handle disappointment along the way.”
Fitness was non-existent in my life for many years. Actually, for most of my life. Sure, I played sports, danced as a child, and ran around outside; but that was the extent of it. I developed asthma early on and used that as an excuse to not run track or participate in gym. When I did try to play sports, I was left winded and defeated. Exercise and sports were pointless.
