We all know alcohol is not a friend to our figure. But if we must drink–and many of us “must”–we hope this helps:
And just to make things clear, Strong Figure is NOT promoting anyone to go out and get drunk–ever. We’re just being realistic. Hey, it’s the weekend! We know that many people are going to have a drink every now and then. Even one of the fittest bodybuilders I know has three drinks per year. (yeah, she’s THAT dedicated.)
Just choose wisely when having your drink. Avoid the extra carbs and calories from sugary fruit juices, soft drinks, or heavy beers. And if you just can’t resist? Keep everything in moderation. And no matter what you drink, your body is going to work to process the alcohol before anything else in your system so all the food you consume could get stored and converted into fat while the body is ridding itself of alcohol. Eat lots of protein, hydrate with plenty of water, and drink responsibly. After all, it’s all about the Strong Figure!
Ok Erik, my question is where does WINE fit in?! I want a glass of RED this weekend!!
Ok based on this chart red wine would likely not do too great. Since the higher grades were given to the more bang for the buck alcohols. And red wine lacks a lot of bang — I assume you are not drinking MD 20/20. From a health perspective though, if you drink a red wine with low residual sugars (most Cabernets and Merlots fall into this) then one glass is honestly not bad at all – low carb and relatively low calorie. However, if your intention is to get drunk then wine is not the best choice as it would take several glasses and the calories would add up.
I recommend Scotch and water (Johnny Walker on the chart). Plenty of bang, fairly low calorie, and the water helps the diuretic element of the alcohol. And it’s awesome.
I totally want to try scotch and water…I’ve heard it’s not the best tasting but I’ve also heard there’s no hangover. And btw, I DO NOT want to get drunk…off wine or anything. Hangovers are awful and drinking makes me eat. And crave carbs. For days. One glass of wine, or maybe I’ll try scotch. But no more!!!
Well based on the crap load of hits this post got today. I think its safe to say that a large contingent of Strong Figure subscribers do like to get drunk — at least more than they like to get fat.
And Scotch is somewhat of an acquired taste but you grow to like it. Like anything important in life, it takes practice.
