Holiday Calorie Burn-off Part I

November 21, 2012 By Stephanie Walker

Ok, so it’s the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and you’re feeling guilty, stuffed, bloated, and FAT. Here are a few tips that you can follow to ensure you don’t slip completely off your diet and wind up gaining the holiday 5-pound bloat.

  • Tip 1: the day after a big food fest, skip breakfast. WAIT! Don’t log off! I know it sounds crazy but you’re body is actually in a fat burning mode early in the morning and eating actually stops your body from burning fat. So try to wait about 2 hours (drink coffee–black or with full fat cream) until you eat. For more info on skipping breakfast, click HERE!
  • Tip 2: MOVE. Go for a long walk, SHOP til you drop, go to the gym, just move. You’ll feel less guilty about your splurge, and if you get up and move on an empty stomach, that fat loss process will be accelerated and you’ll be using last night’s dinner as fuel for your workout. There’s no better way to deplete those carbs than by using them! Need workout ideas? I’ve got three workouts that I’ll be posting early this Friday morning. Afraid you’ll forget? Sign up on the home page to follow this site and you’ll get the workouts emailed directly to you!
  • Tip 3: Drink water. Then drink water. And please, drink some more water. Our bodies will probably be soaking up twice as much (if not ten times as much) sodium than normal. We all know sodium bloats us but did you know the best way to battle bloat is to drink water? Try to drink a gallon the day after a food binge.
  • Tip 4: This may be the hardest tip to follow but it also may be the most important–go low carb the entire day following a feast. I’m talking like under 30 grams of carbs and only from vegetable sources. This may sound extreme (would you still be reading at this point if you weren’t? You already made it past skipping breakfast) but it’ll really help. Your body will be forced to use what you put in it the day before, not store it. Eat the left over turkey, ham, deviled eggs….just stay away from anything too high in sugar and starch. Even fruit. I know, crazy, but it’s only one day.

If you can stick to these tips for a day…even two or three…you won’t have to worry a bit about a few days of splurging.

Don’t forget–I will post three different total body workout circuits FRIDAY morning! Subscribe to STRONG FIGURE so you that you are the FIRST to receive the info!
